International GTKY

If you’re working in an international summer school then take the opportunity to make conversation from your students’ different backgrounds.

Here’s one activity I did yesterday on my first day of summer school…

Draw your own home country on a large piece of paper as an example…DSC_0649

Get the students to do the same, and it’s not about drawing skill! – just a general outline of their country. Only 1 minute to do this – no more.

Then, put the maps around the room on the walls or on tables and have students circulate in pairs. They have 5-10 minutes to write questions about the other countries on the maps. This is a good opportunity for the teacher to monitor, add in questions and make notes for feedback.

Give the students a couple of minutes to read the questions on their own maps and then either have students answer the questions in small groups or open class.
